How do I know if the petrol is good quality?
'Qualità' — 'kwa-li-TA'. Three syllables; stress on the last. The accent marks a final stressed syllable.
Ask when using an unfamiliar or very cheap station, particularly in remote areas, where fuel quality may be a concern.
'Di qualità' means 'of quality'. 'Come faccio a sapere' means 'how do I know'. In Italy, fuel quality at licensed stations is strictly regulated by law. Concerns are more relevant at unlicensed or roadside sellers.
Questo è carburante certificato?
Is this certified fuel?
Asks for quality certification.
Vendete solo carburante di marca?
Do you only sell branded fuel?
Checks if the fuel comes from a major certified supplier.
Ho paura che la benzina sia sporca.
I'm worried the petrol might be dirty.
States a concern about fuel contamination.
Italian fuel quality is regulated by the Ministry of Economic Development and is consistently among the highest in Europe. Branded fuel from Eni, IP, and Q8 includes performance additives. White-label stations ('distributori bianchi') sell cheaper but equally legal fuel.
