Nota cultural

Originally a Roman term for peasants from the countryside ('burinì' in old Roman dialect), 'burino' has spread throughout northern Italy — especially Milan — where it describes anyone perceived as unsophisticated or lacking urban manners. In Milan, it often carries class snobbery: a 'burino' is someone who doesn't know how to dress or behave in polished society.
